Description
Naval seaman John Monroe Dillingham writes from the U.S. sloop of war Housatonic off Charleston, South Carolina, where there has been little action on the blockade recently.
He describes one incident and the fact that he will get some prize money. He wants his mother to send him his "black monkey jacket" and some apples.
Both he and his friend John Angier Hyde (1843- ) are well. He also comments on local news.
