Description
Jean-Louis-Anne-Magdeleine Lefebvre de Cheverus (1768-1836) came to America in 1796, served as the first Catholic bishop of Boston and worked with the Penobscot and Passamaquoddy Indians.
The inscription on this engraving reads, "Rt. Revd John Cheverus Bishop of Montauban Formerly Bishop of Boston." He was made bishop of Montauban in 1823.
