Description
Dorothy Stevens Dore (1911-1995), classical pianist, gardener, painter, poet and wife to Dr. Kenneth Dore of Fryeburg, Maine. In addition to raising a family, her role, along with the children when they were old enough, was to assist in the medical practice whenever they were needed. At night , however, she would sit at the piano and 'beautiful music would pour out', according to her daughter, Emily Dore Fletcher. After her husband's retirement they moved to Florida where for 25 years she played piano for churches full time until her death in 1995. After she died, daughter Emily found a letter in which she had written," I gave up a promising stage career to marry a doctor. I hope I did the right thing."
