Description
Tintype portrait of Annette Merryman (1840-1933). Written on an oval piece of paper in back of the frame: " Nettie M. , organist -- musical teacher of the children! --- a rare gem for some one yet unknown."
Merryman taught in Brunswick schools all her life. She was a staunch supporter of many causes, especially the Capt. John Curtis Memorial Library from its beginning in 1883 and the historical society.
She was a member of the Book Committee and set to work raising money for the library fund. With her encouragement the school put on an entertainment that earned $50 for the fund.
In 1933, Merryman left a bequest of her house, books, furniture and substantial funds, totaling $23,000 to the library.
