Description

The French plane Yellow Bird" (L'Oiseau Canari) is being towed by a large number of men to the "runway" - the hardpacked sand at low tide on Old Orchard Beach in preparation for its attempt to cross the Atlantic.

The plane set records for the longest flight over the ocean and the first French flight over the North Atlantic. The plane flew 2,410 miles in 22 hours. The pilots were Jean Assolant, Rene Lefevre, and Armeno Lotti.
