Description

American aviators who were to pilot Green Flash on a transatlantic hop and French fliers who were to attempt the flight in Yellow Bird meet at Old Orchard Beach.

The two planes planned to take off together in the first race across Atlantic in history of aviation.

From left are Roger Q. Williams, pilot of American plane; Rene Lefevre of Yellow Bird, Jean Assolant, also of French plane; and Capt. Lewis Yancey, navigator of Green Flash, U.S. plane.

Lotti, third member of the French crew was to arrive later at Old Orchard.

The French plane completed the flight; the American plan crashed during a trial flight and was unable to participate in the race.
