Franklin Pierce on 1831 elections, 1831

Description

Franklin Pierce (1804-1869) of New Hampshire wrote to his distant cousin and friend, George Washington Pierce of Portland, about the outcome of the 1830 Congressional elections in New Hampshire and the prospects for the presidential election in 1832.

The two men had recently met in Boston and discussed politics and their futures. Franklin Pierce was elected president in 1853.
