Franklin Pierce (1804-1869) wrote from Saco to his distant cousin and friend George Pierce (1805-1835) of Portland.
Franklin Pierce was in Saco on business. He comments in the letter about George's position on nullification and offers him political advice.
George Pierce was serving in the Maine Legislature at the time and Franklin Pierce, a future president, was a member of the New Hampshire House of Representatives.
