Description
Franklin Pierce, serving in Congress from New Hampshire, wrote to his friend and distant cousin George W. Pierce of Portland, consoling him on political defeats in Maine and discussing a number of political situations in the country.
Both men were Democrats.
Franklin Pierce served in the U.S. House from 1833-1837 and in the U.S. Senate from 1837-1842. He was President from 1853-1857.
