Description
Francis O. J. Smith (1806-1876), a U.S. Representative from Maine, wrote to George Washington Pierce of Portland in Augusta suggesting Pierce and others should not trust Josiah W. Seaver, South Berwick, because Smith believed Seaver would act as a "spy" within the Democratic Party ranks.
F.O.J. Smith was a lawyer, businessman and politician from Portland.
