Description
The building on O'Neil Street housed the South Portland Fire Deparment alarm equipment and air tanks to operate the whistle from 1916-1924.
It later became the South Portland Department of Public Works.
The department bought the whistle second-hand from the Portland Gas Light Co. and first installed it at a railway power house at Knightville in 1901.
