Description
Sebastian Streeter Marble (1817-1902), a native of Dixfield, served as governor was two years after the death of Governor Joseph R. Bodwell.
Marble, as senate president, succeeded him on December 15, 1887, serving until 1889.
Marble had practiced law in Waldoboro from 1851 to 1861, was collector of customs in the early 1860s and was subsequently appointed marshal of Maine, serving from 1870 to 1878.
Elected to the Maine State Senate from Lincoln County in 1882 and re-elected three times, he was president of the Senate in his final term.
