Description
This photograph shows a newly constructed row of housing at the Fairview Acres Housing project. Fairview Acres is one of three off base housing projects for Presque Isle Army Air Force personnel. Fairview Acres was built as a temporary housing project in 1944 for Presque Isle Army Air Force families. The photograph shows the front doorway of each of the apartments in the row.
Notice how some doorways on the row of houses on the left are together and some are not.
The wooden boxes at the front of each apartment were coal bins for the one coal burning heater in the apartment. These were later removed and oil drums were placed near the doorways.
