Description
This photograph shows the interior of one of the apartments at the Fairview Acres Housing project.
Fairview Acres was built as a temporary housing project in 1944 for Presque Isle Army Air Force families.
This view is from the living room into the kitchen. On the very left is one of the bedrooms. The black heating stove burns coal. In the kitchen is a hot water tank behind the kerosene burning cook stove.
There is a kitchen sink and an icebox. An ice truck delivered ice to the apartments. Children often followed the truck, hoping to catch a nice cool piece of ice.
The doorway exits to the street side of the apartment.
