Description
Elmer E. Rowe went to work for James W. Davis at his carriage manufacturing business in 1873. He eventually began his own business with his brother Dwight and father Sumner. The Rowe family and the Davis brothers were the principal carriage manufacturers in Ellsworth.
Elmer E. Rowe was born in Dover on December 21, 1850. He first learned the carriage business in Dover. He moved to Ellsworth in 1873 and began working for Davis.
In 1890 Rowe went into business for himself on South Street in Ellsworth. He later moved his business to School Street. (Information taken from the column Looking Back by Herbert T. Silsby)
