Description
Peleg Whitman Chandler was born April 13, 1816 in New Gloucester. He graduated from Bowdoin College in 1837. He also married Martha Cleaveland in the same year. He studied and practiced law in Boston. In 1867, Mr. Chandler received the degree of LL.D. (Doctor of Laws) from Bowdoin College and became a trustee of the college in 1871. The Honorable Peleg W. Chandler remodeled the old Massachusetts Hall into a beautiful room, called the Cleaveland Cabinet, in memory of the late Professor Parker Cleaveland, his wife’s father. Mr. Chandler died May 28, 1889.
Grace Chandler, granddaughter of Peleg and Martha Chandler, was born about July 1870. Grace’s father was Horace Chandler, son of Peleg and Martha.
