Description
Maliseet Indian Fred Tomah is known for his finely woven "cat's head" gathering baskets, in which he intentionally weaves a mistake to avoid creating a perfect piece.
Tomah is recognized by Maine Indian basketmakers for his ability to locate and prepare high quality brown ash for basketmaking.
