Description
The Cottage for Women at the Maine State Sanatorium at Greenwood Mountain, Hebron. The facility to treat patients with tuberculosis opened in 1904 as a private enterprise and was taken over by the state in 1915.
Patients slept in the open air on the covered porch of the building or in rooms inside that had door and windows to allow fresh air in at all times.
This postcard is addressed to Mrs. F.A. Reed 15 Grant St., Auburn (Probably Della Reed) The message reads: "Dear sister I do not think you have one like this. Hope you are feeling better I wanted to go to Rumford but Ethel cant go I do not like to go alone. From sister"
