Description
The reception cottage at the Maine State Sanatorium for Pulmonary Diseases in Hebron. The privately operated facility opened in 1904. The reception cottage opened in August 1910.
Founded by Dr. Estes Nichols, the sanatorium was one of the first in the country to treat patients with tuberculosis. Patients slept in open or semi open pavilions and followed strict sanitary and dietary regimens.
