Description
Margaret Verrill of Mechanic Falls wrote to Dr. Estes Nichols, medical director of the Maine State
Sanatorium at Hebron, following up on a letter of several weeks earlier.
Verrill had asked that the doctor take back a patient, Agnes, for a reduced rate. Here, Verrill tells the doctor that they can pay only $5 a week for Agnes, plus $1 for washing.
The rate was $12 a week, plus patients had to pay for laundry service and provide their own thermometers, sputum cups, fur coats (because they slept outside) and heavy blankets.
