Description
E. T. Burrowes of the E. T. Burrowes Co. in Portland was one of a number of people who wrote in support of the Maine State Sanatorium for Pulmonary Diseases in Hebron accepting the wife of Owen C. Holden at a reduced rate.
Burrowes and other business people wrote to the sanatorium to comment on Holden's character and his lack of money to pay the $12-$15 a week treatment cost.
Burrowes suggested Holden could pay $9 a week.
The tuberculosis sanatorium was privately operated, with some state funding.
