Description

An architectural drawing of a type of cottage for the treatment of tuberculosis, drawn by architects John Calvin Stevens and John Howard Stevens of Portland.

The cottage was designed for the Maine State Sanatorium in Hebron, a privately operated facility that opened in 1904. Patients slept in the building's wings either in the partially enclosed pavilions or on the piazzas in the open air.

The state took over operation of the facility in 1915 and changed its name to the Western Maine Sanatorium.
