Description
Crowd gathered in Monument Square waiting for the results of the much anticipated Dempsey-Gibbons Boxing Match on July 4, 1923.
The match was held in the small town of Shelby, Montana, whose citizens had a erected a 40,208 seat stadium, expecting that many people would travel to Shelby to see the fight. Only 12,000 tickets were sold for the event and backers of the event lost so much money that four area banks closed.
