Description
Josiah Pierce (1792-1866) of Gorham wrote to his maiden sister Hannah (1788-1873) of Baldwin to pay $5 interest on a $500 debt he owes her.
He wrote, "My income is very small & I have to pick up little sums as I can." Pierce was a lawyer and had been a legislator and involved in many civic causes.
Other letters also refer to payment Josiah Pierce made on the loan.
