Description
Hannah Pierce of Baldwin, visiting her sister Sarah Gooch in West Denis, Massachusetts, wrote to her brother Josiah Pierce of Gorham, reporting that Sarah was still ill.
She also reported that her sister's daughter Sarah had starting teaching school and was earning $17 a month as an assistant. Another daughter, Phebe, was going to school at the "literary Institution."
Hannah noted that Phebe had been out of school for two years because of her mother's illness.
Sarah Gooch died in 1851.
