Description
Hannah Pierce (1788-1873) of Baldwin wrote to her brother Josiah in Gorham about her problems getting her crops in.
She noted that her corn crop was small because it had been poorly taken care of. She had to hire people to plant and care for the crops and had increasing difficulty finding appropriate persons.
She told her brother she had paid off two of the farm workers and had a few more small bills to pay.
She said her motto was "owe no man anything."
