Description
Hannah Pierce (1788-1873) wrote about the impending departure of Mr. and Mrs. Yates, who rented and operated her farm, living in part of her house.
Hannah, unmarried, required help to run the farm and used the rental income for a portion of her support. While the Yates did not leave, the problem of renting the farm or finding laborers to work on it consumed much of her time.
The letter is to her brother Josiah Pierce (1792-1866) of Gorham who was her closest adviser on farm and business issues.
