Description
Hannah Pierce of Baldwin, who was expecting to spend part of the winter with her brother Josiah in Gorham, wrote to him on December 29 to tell him why her trip had been delayed.
At first, she could not travel because she had to find a boarding location for a young woman who was living with her and apparently working for her. Then, she could not travel because of the weather and ill health.
She never did travel to Gorham that winter, noting in a later letter that she had spent a comfortable winter in Baldwin, with a neighbor checking in on her and helping her obtain necessary supplies.
