Description
Elizabeth Sanborn and her aunt Hannah Pierce, of Baldwin, wrote to Josiah Pierce IV of Gorham, Hannah's brother, to congratulate him on the birth of a grandson, Josiah Pierce VI.
The baby's father, Josiah Pierce V, and mother were in Russia where Pierce was in the diplomatic service.
Hannah Pierce wrote, "It is the strict injunction of Old Maid Aunt that his first Son be called by the same Name endeared to me by so many tender ties and grateful recollections." Her father and grandfather also were named Josiah.
