Description
George Pierce, a sophomore at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, wrote to his brother Josiah Pierce of Gorham about a fire that broke out in a student room and spread throughout the building.
He described furniture thrown out fourth-story windows. All books were saved, he wrote, except the "Theological Library, which perished in the flames."
