Description
The schooner Bowdoin, under power, backs off of the pier in Wiscasset, while a crowd of well-wishers sees them off.
The Bowdoin and its sister ship, the Sachem III departed at 3:30 p.m. on June 19, 1926. The purpose of the expedition was to investigate the flora and fauna of Labrador, South Greenland and other northern points. MacMillan had also hoped to explore some Norse ruins he had seen in a previous expedition.
The expedition was funded by the Field Museum of Chicago.
