Description
In late February 1927, after a large storm, a finback whale beached itself on Ragged Island near Orr's Island.
Lobster fishermen Isaac Orrin Linscott, E. Moore Tibbetts and Capt. Sam Doughty discovered the whale, which had been dead for about a month.
Capt. William Sylvester, an experienced whale, and many other local men helped remove the baleen and blubber from the whale.
This image shows two men stripping the blubber.
