Description
A panoramic photograph of the attendees at the first Snow Shoe Meet held in Lewiston.
Snowshoe clubs had bands and each club had a distinctive two-color uniform. The convention included a large parade, an ice palace built at Haymarket Square on Main Street and snowshoeing events, among other activities.
The Union Canadienne des Raquetteurs (Canada Snowshoe Union) began in 1907 and held its first convention in 1908. Lewiston formed the first American club in 1924 and hosted the first international convention in 1925.
The American Snowshoe Union formed later that year.
