Description

John Goddard of Bangor, who made his fortune in the timber trade, bought the Cape Cottage Casino, the front porch of which is at the right, for $12,000 in August 1853.

He had Charles A. Alexander design a mansion nearby, which was completed in 1857. Alexander died in 1870. The house was damaged by fire several times and part of it was destroyed in a controlled burn in 1981.
