Description
On the foreside of Sawyer Street in Ferry Village in South Portland, a ferry transported people between Portland and South Portland.
In the mid 19th century, local businessmen James Cahoon and George Turner built Ferry Village, pictured here, and nearby Knightsville. They also ran the ferry Elizabeth from the end of this street. It left every 15 minutes.
