Description
In federal Maine, rings or mementos were often given as tokens of remembrance. This watercolor on ivory and gold ring features two urns, a tomb, with a woman and a willow tree.
The urns are inscribed (painted) “E.B/1793,” and “S.B/1769.” These initials are for Elizabeth Lothrop Bartlett and Samuel Bartlett respectively, the parents of Elizabeth Bartlett Wadsworth, and great-grandparents of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.
