Description
Watercolor on silk memorial painting for William, Augustus and Mary Brewster of Windham, Connecticut, possibly painted by deaf artist John Brewster Jr. (1766-1854), whose relatives are depicted in the memorial.
Urns and weeping willows served as symbolic markers for the loss of a loved one.
Brewster, a native of Connecticut, lived most of his adult life with his brother, Dr. Royal Brewster of Buxton. They came to Maine about 1795.
