Description
Photo portrait of Corporal Charles Milliken in the uniform of the Thornton Academy Cadet Corps.
The Cadet Corps was a school drill team that existed between 1889 and 1893. The first members had caps as their only unifying garment.
After many fund-raising events and performances, enough money was raised for uniforms. At the height of the corps' popularity, trustees of the school were encouraged to require every boy to become a cadet.
By 1893, however, emphasis was on school sports and the drill team became a less popular activity.
