Description
Marshall Pierce (1823-1900) was a successful Maine merchant who also made a fortune in California. He had an extensive collection of files of nearly every newspaper printed in York County. His children Orestes Pierce, Josephine Pierce, and Henrietta Pierce Watkinson donated money in their mother and father's names in 1926 to fund the construction of a building to house the York Institute (now the Saco Museum).
