CCC crew, Augusta, 1935

Description

Members of the Civilian Conservation Corps from Jefferson Camp on lunch break at the State Park in Augusta where they cleared a ravine and planted trees for what was hoped would become an arboretum.

Crews also built foot trails, foot bridges, hand rails, picnic tables, benches, and an artificial pond.

The CCC members from Jefferson were veterans of World War I and the camp was under the direction of the Maine Forest Service Forest Protection division.
