Description
The F.S.Pendleton and Company Store was an island institution for almost 100 years. Built in 1880 by F.S. Pendleton, the store sold ship supplies, hardware, groceries, cloth, and everyday necessities. The Islesboro Post Office was housed there for many years. Five generations of Pendletons ran the store. In 1979 the building was torn down and the store moved to a new location further south on the island. The store closed in 1981.
The original sign seen here in the photograph is on exhibit in the Islesboro Historical Society.
