Description
A lightning strike from an electrical storm set fire to the steeple of the Baptist Church on the corner of Green and Main Streets in Thomaston on Sunday, June 14, 1992. The fire was quickly extinguished, saving the building from further destruction.
Within two days, a crane was brought in to remove the badly burned steeple. A new steeple was constructed and replaced atop the tower, using the same method the following year.
