Description
A Sphinx snow sculpture at the Western Avenue home of Augusta businessman and publisher William Howard Gannett.
Gannett had a radio transmitter embedded in the Sphinx. It told visitors they could not pass until they answered a riddle. It asked what creature goes on four legs in the morning, two legs at noon and three legs in the evening.
Gannett was a winter sports enthusiast and planned to use photos of the sculpture, created by M. Henneman, to promote the 1924 Winter Carnival.
