Description
This lifeboat was designed and built by Captain Loring Myers of Lubec, who was once stationed at the Channel Light. There were two hatches on either side that could be locked tight. Passengers would be enclosed inside the vessel and tubes extending above the water were designed to admit fresh air. Instead of being lowered into the water from davits, the boat would float clear in case of wreck or other accident. It is believed that the invention was not adopted by shipping companies due to production expenses.
