Description
Port stern view of the three-masted schooner William Booth from the M.B. McDonald & Sons shipyard, Pistol Point, Mystic. The William Booth was the first schooner built at the McDonald & Sons shipyard.
It was named after William Booth (1848-1927), owner and president of Booth Brothers & Hurricane Island Granite Co.
Schooners are sailing ships with at least two masts (foremast and mainmast), with the mainmast being the taller. The word derives from the term "schoon/scoon" meaning to move smoothly and quickly.
