Description
This photograph of Frederick W. Swanton was taken by Bath photographer Augustus Hatch, whose studio was in the Church Block. Hatch took young Fred's picture several times over the years. So did the photographer Charles H. Pierce, in his photographic gallery within the building that Fred's father, Henry Worcester Swanton's business resided, the Hyde Block. In this particular studio setting Swanton, in a replica of a Union uniform, stands in front of a backdrop with classical allusions.
