Description
This black and white photograph by Herbert Douglas in February 1941 shows the Music Hall at the northeast corner of Centre and Washington Streets in Bath.
The building, constructed as a Concert Hall before 1830, served as a testament to the boom times of the 1850s, when it was expanded substantially by Jeremiah Robinson (1787-1873).
The Music Hall provided space for several retail establishments, as well as room for various entertainments on the upper floors. Shortly after this photograph was taken, the structure was demolished for the construction of a Sears Roebuck store and a First National Grocery Store during the flurry of construction activity caused by the preparation for the approaching World War II.
In 1973, the structure housing Sears and First National was torn down to build a senior housing project known as Washington House.
