Description
This black-and-white photograph of downtown Centre Street was shot by the Douglas Photo Shop and printed on July 22, 1948. On the north side of the street, the W. T. Grant national chainstore, with its pale facade, has replaced the former town hall torn down in 1936. To the east, the Davenport Memorial, Bath's City Hall built in 1929, looks over a dense commercial landscape of local stores on the south side of Centre Street, and just out of the picture, to the west, two more national chainstores, Sears Roebuck and the First National grocery store.
