Description
In the early years of the Library, patrons "bought" memberships which allowed them to borrow books from the Library. This certificate bestows lifetime privileges on Mittie Fairbanks, who was the first librarian of the current Farmington Public Library, serving from 1890-1891. It is dated January 2, 1917, and signed by the President and the Treasurer of the Association. There is also a seal in the lower left-hand corner. It is a little uncertain, but we believe in the 1920s the library no longer issued these certificates, but still had yearly memberships at no cost to Farmington taxpayers.
