Description
The four adult sons of Jacob Abbott. Upper left: Benjamin Vaughan, b. 1830. Upper right: Edward, b. 1841.
Lower left: Austin, b. 1831. Lower right: Lyman, b. 1835. All four sons were authors. Benjamin and Austin jointly prepared legal compilations which were of importance to the profession. Edward was the editor of the highly regarded "Literary World" and author of various American history books. Lyman wrote two novels with his brother Austin, and was for several years editor of the "Literary Record" and "Harper's Magazine." He was a featured speaker at the dedication of the Cutler Memorial Library Building in 1903.
